I got asked to paint up a unit of Pendraken Napoleonic French Cuirassiers a few weeks back so I ordered 2 packs, one for the customer, one just to paint up.
The figures arrived on Monday and I set to with them in the afternoon, cleaning and undercoating ready for painting on Tuesday.
I had a minor problem with the office figure in the unit shown in the picture, his horses legs were miscast and I didn't notice until I pushed the figure into the blue-tac to hold it on a temporary base (lolly-pop stick), at which point the legs of the horse gave way.
I think out of the hundreds of Pendraken figures I have painted this is the first one that has been miscast, so I have no complaints.
To fix the damaged horse, I cut the legs off a Pendraken horse in my spares box and grafted the Officer and his horses torso on to those. Worked fine.
These Cuirassiers were primed black then block painted in appropriate colours before a wash of Army Painter Strong Tone Ink. This ink helped to liven up the horse colours which seemed very lack lustre at first, black primer does tend to dull everything somewhat.
Highlights applied next then the figures were attached to the bases. I have a lot of 30mm x 20mm bases from Magister Militum left from a previous job and they are an appropriate size for 3 Curiassier per base.
A built the bases up with wood filler before a coat of Vallejo Flat Earth was applied. Then I dipped them in some basing sand.
Javis mid green flock was applied next and once everything was dry, a good coat of matt varnish was applied using my old airbrush.
My customer received his 15 cuirassers today, I got a lovely email saying how happy he was with them. These 15 I may keep or I may sell, you never can tell.
